Mountain biking is synonymous with sometimes dangerous but exhilarating biking trails that can range from cliff-face climbing to pastoral countryside and open farmland. No-one loses from mountain biking; it’s fun, healthy and green – both riders and the countryside benefit. Bike manufacturers themselves are adding further to the industry’s green credentials – Trek Mountain Bikes for example, are produced in a zero-carbon factory.

It’s perfectly true that mountain bikers themselves need to keep their integrity too. Keeping healthy means that riders are able to manage the sometimes tricky trails that they deliberately seek-out. Whilst it’s important to use stamina to complete trails, as most bikers who own a machine from the range of Trek mountain bikes will no doubt already be aware, physical body strength is also essential.

Maintaining body strength and weight is vital to ensure mountain bikers remain in control of their bikes in dangerous situations. This enables them to train their reactions quickly and positively when the unexpected comes their way and ‘stay loose’.

There are many ‘bodyweight exercises’ that can be undertaken to achieve improved physical strength, the easiest and simplest being push-ups and pull-ups. However, following a properly worked out and regular routine can do more for the aspiring rider of Trek mountain bikes than simply doing these basic moves.

There are numerous books on mountain bike fitness programmes, such as those by John Metcalfe, and advice should really be sought. Large brands like Trek have World Racing teams that mountain bikers can follow to see how the professionals train and prepare.

Trek mountain bikes are magnificent to own, however the rider must be fit and capable enough to ride one safely.
