Orange mountain bikes are a British mountain bike company which is based in the town of Halifax, Yorkshire.Although the recent recession impacted the leisure industry negatively, Orange mountain bikes have survived very well thanks to its commitment to providing a bike for everyone and its commitment to quality. The recession has placed a bigger than usual emphasis on choosing British brands over foreign ones.Buying British is also much greener than sourcing our bikes from abroad.

Orange mountain bikes have a long history and previous high-profile sponsorship of champions such as Steve Peat and Greg Minaar has only made the name even bigger. The bike that truly helped Orange mountain bikes make their name was the Patriot, which was a massive favourite on British downhill courses. The following model, the 222, was the one that got the brand international attention. Today, it’s the Orange Five model that everyone knows.Orange mountain bikes are now available in 26 countries across the World.

Orange mountain bikes was originally set up by the business partners Lester Noble and Steve Wade.At the beginning, Lester Noble was importing Taiwanese bikes and selling them in the UK under the name Tushingham bikes. Later, thanks to Steve Wade’s sheet metal business and engineering experience the pair were able to manufacture for themselves. That said, they did begin by important bike parts and assembling them themselves.
Almost all of today’s Orange mountain bikes are assembled in the company’s Halifax factory. The Far East is however still responsible for the manufacturing of entry level bikes.

Orange has a good relationship with Birmingham based Reynolds who was the first company to use hydro formed tubing. Most Orange mountain bikes are made using hydro formed tubing. This means that a particular method is employed when making the frame tubes to create frames which are very durable.
