One might imagine that television and the Internet would not be of much interest to outdoor enthusiasts. But one would be mistaken.

There are several hunting television shows that have run for many years. Entire networks have been developed that are dedicated to hunting, fishing, and other outdoor sports. And with the growing capabilities of Internet TV, those topics have carried over to the web as well.

Amateur Clips have been available on video sharing sites since their inception. There are lots of professional and hunting videos to choose from. And networks such as Xtreme Outdoor Network have begun to offer programming online as well.

Extreme Outdoor Network allows viewers to watch online for free as long as they register on the site. The network shows a variety of fishing, cooking, and hunting videos. They have even been known to air Amateur Clips.

Dry Fly Fishing on the surface and wet fly subsurface flies are the two most common fly fishing categories. Just as the name indicates the surface flies usually suspend themselves on the surface of the water. The submariners or wet flies go below the surface of the water imitated the aquatic life cycle of the mimicked insect.

Poppers are one of the most popular and effective styles of flies. Resembling anything from the larger adult insects to frogs and injured bait fish. They are usually made of cork, foam, balsa wood or even spun deer hair and are a favorite of many fly fishing bass anglers across the country.

Flat or concave heads on the poppers cause them to make a gurgling or popping sound when pulled or retrieved across the surface of the water.

There are numerous fishing types on various mediums like the sea, lakes, canals and rivers. Obviously the type of fishing you predominantly use is pretty much a matter of personal preference and most keen fisherman will try several variations until they find the right one for them. Take my preference for float fishing, I like to sit patiently relaxing and let all the stresses of the working week flow away. I tried fly fishing but found the constant action was not was I was looking for from fishing. As for sea fishing definitely not my idea of fun although I did enjoy Marlin fishing as I got a great tan too!

Fly fishing is most generally used for catching trout, bass and salmon. As the name suggests an artificial fly is used instead of the standard bait of worm, maggot or bread. The fly is constantly agitated on the surface to try and emulate what happens when a real fly lands on the water, tempting the bass or trout into coming to the surface for some free lunch. The standard fly fishing gear is very different than that of coarse or fly fishing except that a rod and reel are used.

Ice fishing takes place in the colder areas of the world including Alaska and Minnesota. An area of the ice is cut away so that they fishing line can be placed into it. Some ice fishing locations feature small huts on the ice that you can rent in order to have some shelter from the cold and wind. These are just a couple of examples of the many types of fishing
